Dear Friends,

It is an absolute honour to support Help for Hirschsprung Disease in my capacity as Patron of Back to Belmore. The charity organisation was established in 2016 by Georgina Altas and helps families of children with bowel-related illnesses with both practical and emotional support.

Hirschsprung's Disease is a rare bowel condition that affects about one in 5,000 Australian newborn babies and infants. Caused by a blockage in the large intestine, it occurs because some nerve cells fail to develop in parts of the bowel while the foetus is growing in the uterus. It can be genetic. Mostly, the cause is unknown. Boys are more likely to have the disease than girls. If not operated on quickly, the condition can be potentially fatal.
