Luke has been an active and longstanding advocate for the restoration of historic sporting venues in Sydney and nationally. In 2014, Luke retired from the Back to Belmore executive committee after almost a decade at its helm as our founding President. His tenure saw the organisation prevail in ensuring that Belmore Sports Ground was safeguarded for future generations of athletes, playing a pivotal role in changing people's perceptions about the future of the historic venue from unflinching cynicism and doubt to unparalleled optimism and excitement for the future.
The preservation and restoration of Belmore Sports Ground owes a lot to Luke's drive, vision and advocacy. His outstanding passion for the revitalisation of the venue showcases his trademark combination of enthusiasm, panache and commitment, as evidenced by his nomination as Champion of the West for the "Fair Go for the West" campaign in 2014 for services to local sport through advocacy for improved sporting facilities.
In July 2017, Luke graciously accepted our invitation to be Patron as an acknowledgement of his enormous contribution and in July 2022 he was unanimously reappointed as Patron by the executive committee for a second five-year term. Back to Belmore is what it is today thanks to the Presidency of Luke Brailey. We thank him for his leadership, wisdom and guidance in making Back to Belmore one of the most recognised and influential community organisations in the Canterbury-Bankstown district. Our gratitude to Luke is as profound as his love for Belmore Sports Ground.
The principal function of Patron is to represent and promote the interests of Back to Belmore and act as a channel of communication between the executive committee and our internal and external stakeholders. Luke is dedicated to supporting the organsation and advancing its goals and objectives in the wider community with unparalleled vigour and enthusiasm, allowing him to meet many people from all walks of life. His work continues to reflect his passionate and unending commitment to improving Belmore Sports Ground and the lives and livelihood of aspiring sports players.
