The 2017 NRL season is st to kick off under the lights at one of rugby league's most iconic suburban venues, with the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs to host the Melbourne Storm this Friday night at Belmore Sports Ground.

Excitement is building across the local area as Belmore prepares to host its first Friday night match in over two decades. The last time the Bulldogs featured at Belmore on a Friday evening was on 31 May 1996, when they defeated the Illawarra Steelers 12-0 in front of a sprited home crowd.

Back to Belmore President Luke Cevolani said anticipation is at fever pitch.

"Belmore is definitely buzzing," Mr Cevolani said.

"To open the season here, on a Friday night, in front of a passionate home crowd - there's nothing quite like it. This venue is steeped in history and heart, and we're thrilled to see it take centre stage once again."

Vice President Steven Cataldi said local businesses are preparing for a strong night of trade, with supporters expected to arrive early and stay late to soak in the game day experience that only Belmore can provide.

"Games at Belmore are good for the soul - and great for the community," Mr Cataldi said.

"Whether you're grabbing dinner on Burwood Road or catching up with mates at a local eatery, there's a real economic and social energy that these matches bring. This is the kind of night we dreamed about when Back to Belmore was formed. It's a proud moment for everyone who's believed in the future of this venue."

Kick-off is scheduled for 6.00pm, with fans encouraged to arrive early to be part of what promises to be an unforgettable start to the 2017 NRL season.
