Belmore Sports Ground will host its fourteenth NRL premiership match since 2015 on Sunday afternoon between the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs and the Canberra Raiders.
Back to Belmore Patron Luke Brailey said over 12,000 people attended the NRL Multicultural Round clash at Belmore in March, adding the event pumped more than $400,000 into the local economy.
“The first-grade competition games at Belmore Sports Ground aren't just a celebration of the historic venue, they're a cornerstone of our hospitality industry and an economic powerhouse for the Belmore precinct,” Mr Brailey said.
“The economic impact of such an event reverberates throughout Belmore, benefitting businesses, residents and visitors alike. This NRL exposure not only promotes visitors during the event, but also encourages repeat visits to cafés, eateries and restaurants throughout the year, fostering long-term sustainable growth for our local industry in the Canterbury-Bankstown district.”
Vice President Steven Cataldi added events such as NRL fixtures will give Belmore exposure and potential for other major sporting events in the future.
“For a Sunday afternoon event which attracts over 10,000 people it is a tremendous stimulus to our local economy and visitors when you think about how many are coming from beyond the Canterbury-Bankstown area,” Mr Cataldi said.
“And keep in mind, this is a rain or shine event which also speaks loudly to the strength of the foot traffic when I hear that footy fans still rock up to the game at Belmore regardless of the mood of the sky.”
Half of the crowd is expected to be from out of town. Traffic delays are expected to begin from Sunday early afternoon in Belmore and surrounds.
