Back to Belmore has commended City of Canterbury Bankstown Mayor Bilal El-Hayek for his commitment to raising awareness about homelessness through the third annual Mayor's Lights Out Sleepout, which will be held at Belmore Sports Ground from 6pm on Friday, 8 August to 8am on Saturday, 9 August.

Patron Luke Brailey praised the initiative and the spirit behind the cause.

“When we formed Back to Belmore in 2005 to help restore and protect Belmore Sports Ground, we could never have imagined the historic venue would one day be used to shine a light on such a worthy cause that affects so many Australians,” Mr Brailey said.

“This year marks the second time the Mayor's Lights Out Sleepout will take place at Belmore Sports Ground. It's a fantastic initiative. Homelessness can touch anyone, and it's crucial that we do what we can as a community to support those Aussies who are really doing it tough this winter. Full credit to the Mayor for lending his support to those who need it most.”

The Mayor's Lights Out Sleepout will support three charity partners - Mission Australia, Maronites on Mission Australia (M.O.M) and Brothers In Need - with a fundraising target of $30,000.

Back to Belmore encourages the entire community to support this important cause. You can register to sleep out or make a donation by visiting the following link: https://www.cbcity.nsw.gov.au/join-mayors-lights-out-sleepout
