Back to Belmore is a new residents' action group demanding a better level of care for Belmore Sports Ground.
The group will be officially formed next week at its inaugural committee meeting by seven lifelong local residents led by diehard Bulldogs supporter and community advocate Luke Brailey concerned that the venue is being allowed to deteriorate.
"Our main goal is to put Belmore Sports Ground back at the forefront of the Canterbury-Bankstown district's future," said Mr Brailey. "We plan to lobby Canterbury City Council, the Howard Coalition Government, the Carr Labor Government and the Mitsubishi Electric Bulldogs to save this historic facility. Regrettably, it's virtually stood empty since August 1998 and is slowly falling into dilapidation and becoming run down."
Belmore Sports Ground is used by junior rugby league teams and other sports. The group will launch a petition and distribute leaflets in the streets encircling the historic facility.
