Back to Belmore acknowledges the upcoming elections for the Board of Directors of the Canterbury Leagues Club, scheduled to take place on Friday, 20 March and Saturday, 21 March at the Club's three venues in Belmore, Lakemba and Punchbowl.

Under the current governance structure, four directors are nominated by the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs Rugby League Club, with the remaining three positions to be elected by members. As a result, the Leagues Club operates as a controlled entity, with the Bulldogs maintaining a 4-3 majority on the Board.

Vice President Steven Cataldi confirmed that Back to Belmore will not be endorsing any candidates at this election.

“While Back to Belmore has, on occasion, endorsed candidates in football club elections in 2008, 2012 and 2018, the Canterbury Leagues Club is not the primary leaseholder of Belmore Sports Ground, and as such, it would not be appropriate for our organisation to involve itself in this process,” Mr Cataldi said.

“Our focus remains firmly on advocating for the preservation and restoration of Belmore Sports Ground and the broader precinct. We believe it is important to maintain that clarity of purpose.”

Patron Luke Brailey extended his best wishes to all nominees standing for election.

“We wish all candidates well and commend those who have put themselves forward on the ballot paper for these important roles,” Mr Brailey said.

“It is our fervent hope that those elected will serve the broader interests of the Belmore precinct and the community with integrity and a clear commitment to its ongoing success, particularly given the significance of the Leagues Club as one of the most successful and profitable in Australia.”

The outcome of the election will be formally ratified at the Canterbury Leagues Club AGM, scheduled for Wednesday, 25 March in Belmore.
