The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs are set to lock horns with Western Sydney rivals Wests Tigers at Belmore Sports Ground on Sunday in what will be the eleventh NRL premiership match Canterbury has taken to its spiritual home since 2015.
With last season's clash between the Bulldogs and the St George-Illawarra Dragons drawing almost 17,000 fans to Belmore, the fixtures at the historic facility have been a massive winner for the local economy. This game is expected to provide a much-needed boost to local businesses.
Back to Belmore Patron Luke Brailey said he looked forward to Belmore hosting another action-packed NRL clash.
“Welcoming the Bulldogs back to their spiritual home gives our local district an incredible opportunity to showcase this amazing venue. It's sensational to attract these games, it reflects where we're at with rugby league in this region,” Mr Brailey said.
“We have the most beautiful sporting facility in the world and we're looking forward to welcoming a good crowd at Belmore Sports Ground to see the Bulldogs take on the Wests Tigers but it's not just footy fans who will benefit from having the game here. These events are not only loved by supporters but also provide a nice boost to our local economy, delivering major flow-on effects for local businesses on Burwood Road who can capitalise on the visitors to Belmore and the Canterbury-Bankstown district.”
Half of the crowd is expected to be from out of town. Traffic delays are anticipated to begin from Sunday early afternoon in Belmore and surrounds.
