Excitement is building across the catchment area as Belmore Sports Ground prepares to host another historic NRL clash this Sunday when the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs take on the Newcastle Knights.
It will be the first time in 21 years that the two cloubs have met at the historic venue. Their last encounter at Belmore was on Sunday, 30 June 1996, when the Bulldogs prevailed 24-14 in a classic mid-season battle.
Back to Belmore President Luke Cevolani said the anticipation leading into the match is palpable.
"There's something buzzing in Belmore this week," Mr Cevolani said.
"To see the Bulldogs and Knights face off here again after more than two decades is special. This ground holds so many memories, and this weekend we get to make a few more."
Vice President Steven Cataldi said that support for Belmore has only grown stronger with each game played.
"Belmore is back - and it's thriving. We're proud of the role the community has played in this revival, and we're looking forward to welcoming fans from all over on Sunday," Mr Cataldi said.
"Every time there's a game at Belmore, the whole area lifts. Shops, restaurants, families, footy fans - everyone gets behind it. It's more than just a game of rugby league; it's a full community experience."
Local retailers are already preparing for a surge in foot traffic, with Sunday's fixture expected to attract thousands of fans from across the Canterbury-Bankstown district and beyond.
