A crowd of 13,463 fans packed into Belmore Sports Ground on Monday night as the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs took on the Canberra Raiders in another memorable chapter for the historic suburban venue.

While the Bulldogs were defeated 22-8 on the field, the broader outcome was a resounding success for the Belmore community, with local businesses reporting a significant increase in trade and the precinct once again buzzing with activity and energy.

Back to Belmore President Luke Cevolani said the result didn't dampen the occasion.

"The Bulldogs may not have come away with the win, but Belmore certainly did," Mr Cevolani said.

"To see more than 13,000 people back here, enjoying a night of rugby league in the heart of our local community, that's a victory in every sense."

Vice President Steven Cataldi said the entire community benefits whenever a game is played at Belmore.

"It brings people together, it drives local spending, and it reminds us all of what this facility means to the people of Canterbury-Bankstown," Mr Cataldi said.

"We've always said Belmore belongs to the people. And as long as there's passion for this place, we'll continue to fight for its future as a vibrant home for major sporting events."

The return of NRL action to Belmore has continued to provide major economic benefits, with retailers in the area enjoying another boost in revenue.
