Belmore Sports Ground, once a jewel in the crown of local sport, has been left to languish as a suburban eyesore. The Canterbury-Bankstown district's much-loved icon remains underused and dilapidated, despite repeated calls from Back to Belmore to have it returned to its former glory.
Feedback from many Bulldogs supporters since the Back to Belmore group was formed a year ago highlight genuine concerns about whether the Bulldogs will ever play first grade matches again at Belmore Sports Ground.
This represents a matter for the Mitsubishi Electric Bulldogs and the National Rugby League. Contrary to popular belief, any decision concerning where NRL games are played does not reside with Back to Belmore Inc. The executive committee respects the fundamental right of the Bulldogs to make informed decisions regarding where they wish to stage their NRL matches and Back to Belmore will not interfere with their decision-making process.
Our organisation's main priority is the preservation and restoration of Belmore Sports Ground as a multi-purpose sporting facility for all sports but given the Bulldogs are still a major stakeholder at the historic venue, it is essential to have a supportive rugby league club for the benefit of sport in the Canterbury-Bankstown District.
The Back to Belmore executive committee has the passion and the vision that will help forge strong solutions around the unacceptable state of Belmore Sports Ground and how it can be transformed into a top-class sporting venue that will meet the needs of the next generation of sports players.
