The tails of Doggies fans will be wagging today after yesterday's announcement that Belmore Sports Ground will host two NRL premiership matches next year. The Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs will be going back to their spiritual home in Round 3 against the Wests Tigers. They will also play the Brisbane Broncos there in Round 20.
The much-awaited 2023 NRL premiership draw clearly stated Belmore Sports Ground would host two Bulldogs home games on Sunday, 19 March and Saturday, 15 July.
Back to Belmore Patron Luke Brailey said the two competition matches would be as memorable as the preceding ten fixtures at the historic venue since 2015.
“These two games will be broadcast live coast to coast and the West Tigers match will be on free to air with the NRL's host broadcaster, the Nine Network. This will provide incredible exposure and branding for Belmore and will deliver a significant economic benefit for the Canterbury-Bankstown district,” Mr Brailey said.
“To be able to bring two NRL premiership games to Belmore is a great result for all stakeholders. Last season's barn burner against the St George-Illawarra Dragons is a great indicator of the local area's passion for rugby league.”
Back to Belmore Vice President Steven Cataldi said securing matches of this calibre was a massive coup for the local area.
“Depending on how the teams are doing, it could be two top-of-the-table clashes. Having the Bulldogs play home games in their spiritual heartland is something very unique and special,” Mr Cataldi said.
“It's an opportunity for fans of the Bulldogs to see some of the highest level NRL action and local businesses will benefit immensely so it is a win for everyone.”
In another surprise win for Belmore, the iconic facility will also host back-to-back pre-season matches on Sunday, 19 February when the Wests Tigers kick it off against the Canberra Raiders before the Bulldogs and Cronulla Sharks face off.
Tickets will go on sale for the Belmore fixtures next year. A sellout crowd is expected to pack the venue for both premiership matches.
