The Back to Belmore executive committee is delighted with the announcement that our founding goodwill ambassador Mazen Safkouni has been selected for the Gridiron NSW state squad.
The rising gridiron star made the 60-man squad that will take on the nations best in April 2014. Mazen, 21 years old, has been highly regarded through his playing career.
The original poster boy for our men's clothing label will play for his home state at this year's American football (gridiron) national championships. A long-serving Back to Belmore volunteer since 2007 and all-round good guy, the running back had a sensational season debut in 2013 and has been handpicked for his stellar form for his club, the Sydney University Lions.
Mazen Safkouni will be viewed by many as a pioneer after becoming the first member of the Back to Belmore fraternity to be selected in a test squad for any sport. He is now poised to make his NSW debut against the ACT in Canberra in just a few months time.
Our best wishes go to Mazen for a fruitful and successful tenure with the NSW state squad as Back to Belmore once again reaffirms its commitment to the promotion and development of gridiron, one of Australia's fastest-growing sports, at Belmore Sports Ground through our initiatives in the years ahead.
