Mazen Safkouni played rugby league all his life, but is now pursuing his dream of playing gridiron in the US after switching codes.
Safkouni, 21, of Roselands, started playing gridiron for Sydney University last year and after his first game was invited to a training camp with the Australian team.
The former commerce student will play for NSW in the national titles in April and hopes to one day play in America.
"My big aim is to play for Australia and hopefully a scout sees me there and takes me to America," Mazen said.
The Macquarie Bank associate said his background in rugby league has helped him adapt to American football.
He is now hoping his early success in the sport will see him represent Australia at the IFAF World Championship of American football in Sweden next year.
"I played rugby league all my life but the physicality in American football is quite tough," he said.
