THE State Government will invest $2.5 million in upgrading Belmore Sports Ground to provide the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs with a permanent training facility.
Premier Kristina Keneally made the announcement at the sportsground yesterday morning saying the redevelopment would also create opportunities for other users.
“This funding will give local community organisations, clubs and sporting teams' access to contemporary facilities at Belmore Sports Ground,” she said.
The grant is on top of a combined $5.9 million contributed by the Federal Government and Canterbury Council, which will incorporate a new gym, ticket offices and entry gates.
Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs chairman Ray Dib said the club was “extremely” fortunate to have all level of governments support them.
“The Premier is a great supporter of rugby league and we are extremely grateful to her for helping make the Belmore redevelopment a reality,” he said.
Ms Keneally was joined by Lakemba State Labour MP Robert Furolo, Canterbury MP Linda Burney and Bankstown MP Tony Stewart.
Works are expected to be underway by December and be completed by the end of next year.
